The climate is better than that of much of the Midwest, not so cold in the winter and not so hot in the summer: the city's weather is moderated by the nearby Great Lakes. Perhaps the greatest advantage is the number of universities and colleges in the city. At least ten institutions make their home just inside the city. This means a lot of students in the area, leading to a thriving and vibrant social and extracurricular scene. It's important to remember these things as college offers more than just the book learning.
